However, it is important to understand that this type of beef requires different preparation techniques compared to the steak most are familiar with. Make sure to read the following instructions carefully to ensure you get to experience the fullest flavors and most luscious texture when enjoying your Wagyu steak.

Pre-Cooking Preparation for A5 Wagyu

The proper cooking methods begin before any heat is applied to your Wagyu. Here are a few preparation steps to follow before you start cooking:

  1. Allow your A5 Japanese Wagyu to come to room temperature prior to cooking. You want the temperature to be consistent throughout the steak to ensure an even sear.
  2. Pat the steaks dry and sprinkle all sides with salt and pepper. A good coating of salt is especially important for achieving a golden-brown crust when pan-searing the steak.
  3. Prepare any sides, sauces, or condiments beforehand. The cooking process for Wagyu beef is very quick, and it is best to serve it as soon as it is ready.

How to Pan Sear Wagyu Steak

After completing your preparation, move onto the actual cooking process. Because A5 Wagyu is such a delicate steak, we do not recommend grilling your cut. Rather, utilize a nonstick pan for the perfect pan-sear.

Wagyu beef cooks quickly and should never be cooked past rare or medium-rare. Try to avoid any multitasking during the cooking process. Have sides and sauces ready to go with dishes and drinks ready on your table. Then, focus your full attention on the following recommendations:

  1. Place a nonstick pan on the stovetop and heat it to medium or medium-high heat. Wait until the pan is heated thoroughly before continuing to the next step. Add nothing to the pan ahead of time.
  2. Put your Wagyu steak in the pan. Allow it to sear on one side for 1 minute without moving it (reduce the time to 45 seconds if you are working with a thinner cut of meat).
  3. Flip the steak and sear the other side for 1 minute, or 30 seconds for a thin steak. (Note: These times will result in a rare cook. Extend the time slightly if you prefer a medium-rare steak but be careful not to overcook it.)
  4. Take the steaks off the heat. Tent them with aluminum foil and allow them to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
